2014-2015 Summer Project Post 4

I choose the book "Monster" by Walter Dean Myers because it looked interesting to me because he was making a movie of his life so I felt that I could understand it better. I also liked this book because it was based on a true story and I think that that is cool but yet sad. I saw a connection between me and the novel because it was about a teenager who made one bad decision and his whole life turned upside down. That connects to me because one day someone could talk me into making that decision and ending up in his situation.

I would recommend this book to anyone who has ever thought about stealing or killing or committing any crime. This is because it shows them how much stress and anxiety the situation could cause. They would most likely be scared too because they could get harmed doing the crime. This book should show my classmates how you can change your life and career by one action. I liked this book very well because it teaches you a life lesson and it isn't hard to understand or decode the story. It is very straight up and very interesting.

2014-2015 Summer Project Post 3

“They take away your shoelaces and your belt so you can’t kill yourself no matter how bad it is. I guess making you live is part of the punishment.”

This quote is a hooking quote because it makes you wonder what happened and what the character is talking about. This quote is saying how being in jail is not a fun time because they make you give anything that could harm you to them so that you suffer. This quote is interesting because it is not very expected and it makes you second guess what the book could be about.

This quote is good because it wraps the book up into two sentences because it makes you realize some things aren't worth going to jail. It also makes you realize that jail is a horrible place because they make sure you cannot kill yourself. In jail they want you to suffer and change your behavior and some people in jail fight and kill people sometimes. So some people don't change. This quote is very effective at hooking readers because it makes you wonder.

2014-2015 Summer Project Post 2

Steve Harmon wants to be found innocent of murder and be released from jail, and also Sandra Petrocelli wants the same result along with Steve's family and friends. Kathy O'Brien wants Steve to stay in jail and I think they jury will keep Steve in jail because they do not have proof that he did or did not commit the crime I think that the jury already thinks that he committed the crime because he is in jail currently and Mrs. Petrocelli wants Steve to be innocent until proven guilty..

One theme that is starting to appear is you can never trust people like you think you can. This is because one of Steve's gang members ratted on him in the court room. Also one of Steve's friends called the cops on him one night and got him into trouble for something that Steve claims he did not do.

My book is written as a movie script. This is nice because you can understand who is talking easier but also it doesn't have as much flow as a regular structured book has. This is also a good thing because you can have an image in your head while you read the story, almost like you are in the movie.

I like my book "Monster" so far and hope that Steve gets found innocent.

2014-2015 Summer Project Post 1.

The book I am reading this summer is called "Monster" by Walter Dean Myers. This book was written as a movie script. I like this because it helps you understand who is talking more clearly. Some of the characters in this book "Monster" include Steve Harmon, Sandra Petrocelli, Kathy O'Brien, James King. The main character is Steve Harmon who is a 16 year old buy who is on trial for murder.

The setting of this book is present day. This book's setting is in the courtroom, and the jail. The conflict in this story is teenagers were charged with robbery and sent to jail, and Steve Harmon was included in this robbery. The judge put Steve on trial for murder because during the robbery the teenagers killed the store clerk,or did they?

I believe that Steve will be proven innocent because they do not have proof that it was him who killed the store clerk. I also think that Steve will be released from jail and will turn his life around because of what he saw in jail and his experience so he will become a good citizen.  You can connect this to the real world because not every person on the Earth will follow the rules but they can find themselves in the same situation. After the problem is solved I hope that they realize that they did not do the right thing and try to make up for it and become well behaved and proper citizens.

I hope in this book Steve is found innocent and turns his life around.

Hunger Games.

This book is about a Girl from district 12 named Katniss Everdeen. Katniss is a hunter who provides food for her family. Katniss's sister was picked as a tribute for the annual hunger games. Katniss did not want to see her sister do as a tribute, so she volunteered as tribute. Katniss's partner is Peeta. Peeta is the bakers son.

When the two tributes were send off, in the opening ceremonies they dressed in inflammable clothes and lit themselves on fire and drew attention to themselves.   All 24 of the tributes are transported to the arena to fight it out. Katniss is on her own at first, but then she discovers that Peeta has teamed up with the Career Tributes – the strong kids from the rich districts in Panem who actually want to go to the Hunger Games. Katniss goes searching for Peeta at the end and finds him wounded. Katniss and Peeta team up, but when they think they have won, the announcer gets on and announces that there can only be one winner.

A New Home.

The Big Field by Mike LuPica is about a shortstop named Hutch. Hutch's role model is Derek Jeter, and also his dad. Hutch's dad played in the big leagues at one point. Hutch is an amazing shortstop and team player. Until D-Will, or Darryl Williams comes along. Darryl is a very selfish and good player. Because of D-Will Hutch gets moved to second base. Darryl and Hutch do not get along.

Hutch is disappointed because his dad does not help him with baseball so they do not talk much, just a hello or a how ya doing?. One day Hutch decides to show up to practice and his dad is giving Darryl lessons and helping him instead of his own son. If I were Hutch I would be really upset and disappointed in my dad.

Swindle "Blizzard Bag"

The kids are making a plan on how to get into the extension so they can get inside of 531 Park Avenue so they are trying to get all the information so that they do not get caught. The kids are trying to get back Griffins Babe Ruth baseball card. The man that said it was a replica and that took it has a heavily guarded home. The guy who Griffin sold the card too gave him 120 dollars then went on TV and sold it for 1,000,000. When Griffin goes to steal the card back he gets caught because the owner of the pawn shop has two dogs. I think that the guy who Griffin sold the card too should have to give Griffin the card or 1,000,000. Also I dont think that it is right for the kids to go steal the card, I think that they should talk to somebody and get help instead of stealing.  If I were in this situation I would not know what to do. I would probably tell an adult that the guy I sold the card too that he scammed me. Then I would hope that he would be responsible and give me the card back and I give him the money.
